A meeting of the Berlin Board of Education was held in the Berlin High School library beginning at 6:15 p.m. Present for the meeting were, Linda Pivin, Nicole Plourde, Karin Dorval, Martha Laflamme, Corinne Cascadden, Bryan Lamirande, Beverly Dupont, Dan Record, Gary Bisson, Tim Forestall, Amy Huter, Ken Proulx, Georgia Caron, Bailey Rigg, Jane Provencher, Debbie Dupuis ,Mark Lapointe, Michael Blair, Robert Rodrigue, Craig Melanson, and members of the press.
MINUTES On a motion by Linda Pivin, seconded by Karin Dorval, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the January 5, 2011 meeting. The motion passed unanimously.
WARRANTS On a motion by Karin Dorval, seconded by Linda Pivin, the Board voted to approve the warrants dated, January 10, January 12, and January 24, 2011 for the amounts of $11,828.09, $300.00, and $259,714.52 respectively. On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.
FINANCIAL REPORT On a motion by Linda Pivin, seconded by Karin Dorval, the Board voted to approve the financial report. On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.

SDE CONFERENCE On a motion by Karin Dorval, seconded by Linda Pivin, the Board voted to approve the attendance of six staff members to the SDE Conference for PreK to 3rd Grade Educators from April 4-5, 2011 in Manchester, NH. The motion passed unanimously.
FY 12 CALENDAR On a motion by Linda Pivin, seconded by Karin Dorval, the Board voted to approve the FY School Year Calendar as presented in their packet. On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.
LOCAL 1444 On a motion by Linda Pivin, seconded by Karin Dorval the Board voted to move the Local 1444 Grievance to the non-public session as per the Union’s request. The motion passed unanimously.
ATHLETI CS Craig Melanson requested the sanctioning of a Club Bowling Team. The necessary funding has been acquired by the team coach through outside donations that will cover all expenses for this current year. Transportation will be provided by the coach and parents. Discussion ensued. The Board is concerned about the transportation of the students. Proof of insurance and a liability waiver will be required. They also are concerned about the coach transporting the students alone. On a motion by Linda Pivin, seconded by Martha Laflamme, the Board voted to sanction a bowling team. The motion passed unanimously.
Gorham Cooperative School District has invited Berlin students to participate in their ski program. Craig Melanson informed the Board that at the announced sign up at the junior high and high school, only two grade 7 students were interested and one wanted to snowboard. The Board instructed Craig to see if he could obtain more interest in the program before they approve it. On a motion by Martha Laflamme, seconded by Karin Dorval, the Board voted to table this issue until their next meeting.
FY 12 BUDGET The Board reviewed last year’s budget report and provided guidance as to what they want to change, add, or remove for the upcoming public hearing.
SUPER’S REPORT The Superintendent informed the Board of the following issues:
- New school website
- Student lead conferences
- Student/Parent/Staff manuals
- AV Roy Foundation
COMMENTS None
NEW BUSINESS Martha Laflamme discussed parents concerns regarding the afternoon kindergarten students missing out on classes during the inservice half days. Amy Huter will review.
Jane Provencher thanked the staff for their hard work on the January 13th Parent Involvement Night at Brown School.
NON PUBLIC On a motion by Linda Pivin, seconded by Karin Dorval, the Board voted to go into nonpublic session at 7:23 p.m. in accordance with RSA 91-A3II, (a), (b) & (c). On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.
On a motion by Karin Dorval, seconded by Martha Laflamme, the Board voted to come out of nonpublic session at 8:37 p.m. The motion passed unanimously. No additional votes were taken in nonpublic session.
FY12 BUDGET On a motion by Linda Pivin, seconded by Karin Dorval, the Board voted to propose a $16,711,731 school budget at the public hearing to be held on February 2, 2011. On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.
ADJOURN On a motion by Martha Laflamme, seconded by Linda Pivin, the Board voted to adjourn it’s meeting at 9:05 p.m. The motion passed unanimously.
